Loyal Jones is a writer, educator, and humorist, and one of the primary people responsible for the Appalachian Studies and Literature movement. A native of North Carolina, Loyal was the director of the Appalachian Center at Berea College from 1970 to 1993. Jones is the author of several highly influential books including Appalachian Values and Faith and Meaning in the Southern Uplands.
